One of my dear friends (and biggest promoters of my business), passed away on Christmas Day, less than 2 weeks ago. Her name was Margaret (Peggy) Hooper (nee McNulty) and Seema & I will miss her dearly. When I first started my business in 2006, Peggy used to come by and give me the history of the Island, teach me about Dyngus Day and acclimate me to the culture of Western New York.

A couple of years ago, Peggy entrusted me to print all the flyers and invites for her 50th High School Reunion – She graduated from Riverside High School because Grand Island did not have a high school at the time.

Before her funeral, her daughters came by to visit me and entrusted me to print out her prayer cards for everyone. I was honored to be of service. Here is the excerpt from her prayer card, a wonderful reminder that we should live life with care and kindness, making the most of each day:

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

I expect to pass through life but once,

If therefore, there be any kindness I can show,

or any good thing I can do to any fellow being,

let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it,

as I shall not pass this way again.

I will miss Peggy very much and thank her for making my life better.

With gratitude and warm wishes,

Fahim Mojawalla
